Education Service 2000: Indigenous Education Programs
Dreaming the Indigenous Way
'Dreaming the Indigenous Way' is a program that explores the culture
and dreaming stories of the Wurundjeri. It has been designed for students
at CSF levels 1,2,3,4 and 5.
Through observation and hands-on experiences with native flora and
fauna, the totems of the Wurundjeri and their dependence on and treatment
of the land and its resources are explored. The program includes a
45-minute session with one of the Sanctuary's education officers.
Teacher notes provide information on the Wurundjeri culture and a
variety of activities. A student booklet contains a number of Wurundjeri
Dreaming stories.
Indigenous People: A New Partnership
Healesville Sanctuary's Indigenous Conference provides students in
Years 5 & 6 with the opportunity to increase their awareness and
appreciation of Indigenous people's culture and history through a
range of activities. These include the opportunity to sample indigenous
plants used for food and medicinal purposes and have close up experiences
with animals of significance to the Wurundjeri. The program also provides
participants with the opportunity for reflection on their own relationship
with the environment.
