The Koorie Heritage Trust conducts historical research. It has a
permanent Koorie exhibition as well as travelling shows exhibiting both
historical and contemporary material. The Koorie Cultural Centre
showcases the continuous living culture, heritage and history of Koorie
people of south-east Australia.

 

Kulin Nation Cultural Heritage Organisation

Aboriginal Catholic Ministry, Melbourne (ACMM)

ACMM is funded by the Archdiocese of Melbourne to minister to Aboriginal people. Staff will visit schools to talk about Aboriginal cultures and spirituality and the work of ACMM. In some instances they are also available to coordinate class excursions to significant sites. Groups of students can also visit the centre.

VAEAI represents Local Aboriginal Education Consultative Groups (LAECGs) on policy advice at a local, state and national level. Information about anything pertaining to LAECGs contact VAEAI and they will give you necessary information. VAEAI promotes culturally relevant educational programs which reinforce Koorie identity. It also aims to provide to the wider community an awareness of Koorie cultures and aspirations.

The Institute focuses on training Koorie graduates. It provides courses for Indigenous students. Increasingly it is also helping educators to integrate Indigenous perspectives into mainstream courses.

VACCA works primarily in the fostering of Aboriginal children into other Aboriginal families or into the child's extended family. It also works to restore children back to their families wherever possible. VACCA provides printed information about its work and will provide speakers where required.

 

Reconciliation, Victoria

This network is responsible for coordinating, facilitating and/or resourcing community reconciliation initiatives across Victoria. It operates under the auspices of the National Council for Aboriginal Reconciliation.

 

Victorian Aboriginal Community Services Association Ltd (VACSAL)

VACSAL is a service organisation for Koorie people. It liaises closely with Health and Community Services Victoria. It has 3 main divisions - Youth Support, Community Support, and Women's Support. It is also able to provide visiting speakers.

 

Victorian Aboriginal Health Service Cooperative Ltd (VAHS)

VAHS is a primary health care agency. It has a Health Promotions Unit which can make speakers available.

 

Victorian Aboriginal Legal Service (VALS)

As well as dealing with the legal issues within Koorie communities, the Victorian Aboriginal Legal Service is an arm for the Stolen Generations Victorian State Workshop.

 

Aborigines Advancement League (Vic)

The Advancement League provides a number of services to Koorie people, including welfare services. It also has a Cultural Unit that provides information and speakers for schools.

 

Aboriginal Community Elders Services (ACES)

There are 3 main divisions within ACES: an Aged Care Hostel; an Elders Daycare Centre and an Elders Cultural Centre. A Cultural Officer is available to visit schools. Programs are developed whereby classes can be invited to the Cultural Centre.

 

Victorian Aboriginal Corporation for Languages
